What happens on the placement date?
Registration for all events is open in advance of the placement date, but individuals and troops are not placed in the event until the placement date. If the number of registrants exceeds event capacity, a random drawing is held to place troops and individuals. Registration is then closed because the event is full.
What happens between the placement date and closing date?
If an event does not fill, but meets the minimum capacity on the placement date, then all registrations are automatically placed in the event. Registration remains open on a first-come, first-served basis until the event fills or reaches the closing date.
What happens on the closing date?
Events are closed to more registrations and confirmation letters with placement status and detailed event information are mailed.
May I attend events on my own or do I have to come with a troop?
You may attend on your own or with your troop. All girls must be accompanied by an adult during events unless stated otherwise.
Adult to Girl Ratios
To determine the correct number of registered, background checked, unrelated adults (in other words, not your sister, spouse, parent, or child), at least one of whom is female to meet the adult-to-girl ratios please refer to the ratio charts found in Safety Checkpoints or Volunteer Essentials publications at the GSCTX website.
What certifications are needed to attend council events?
Many event listings have icons indicating which training certifications are required to accompany a troop for that event. If a girl registers for an event as an individual, no certifications are required.
Who can attend council events?
Attendance at council events is limited to currently registered Girl Scouts who are in the program level the event is designed for. Only events designated as Bring-a-Friend events or those specifically inviting tagalongs may include non-Girl Scouts. Girls who are bridging must attend their current program level events and bridging events only. Special needs of girls need to be reported to the Registration Office. Registration for adult males for overnight events will be accepted only if separate sleeping space and facilities are available.
Payments may be made by check, cash, Girl Scout Dough, credit card and/or financial partnership. Payment will be cashed or charged upon receipt. An after-hours drop box/mail slot is available at the Bluebonnet, Bryan, El Camino, Killeen and Kodosky Program Centers. Checks should be made out to GSCTX and preferably written in blue or black ink.
Participation patches will be given to registered girls who attend a council event. Girls who do not attend an event do not earn a patch. If a girl paid for an event, but did not attend, no refunds are available due to event costs (see refund policy).
Refunds will be given with a written request received no later than two weeks prior to the event, unless there is a written medical excuse signed by a physician.
NOTE: Girl Scouts of Central Texas is not responsible for damage to or loss of participants’ property. Registration for events gives the council permission to photograph paticipants and allows for use of such photos at the council’s discretion.
