STEM Program
Girls Go Tech
STEM programs motivate girls to take an early interest in science, technology, engineering and math. We offer a variety of STEM programs that are tied to the National Program Portfolio throughout our council. Robotic Teams, space camps and career explorations days inspire girls to tackle tomorrow’s technological opportunities and challenges.
EDGE LaBS
The Austin and Brownwood program centers offer technology labs with access to IBM Pentium desktop computers with high-speed Internet and a full suite of Microsoft software. Girls can also make use of digital cameras, microscopes and color printers.
We offer Journey workshops as well as workshops in Photography, Videography, Desktop Publishing, Internet Safety and more! Contact the Programs Department for more information on scheduling a workshop.
Techbridge Samplers
Techbridge samplers are fun activities that provide girls with firsthand experience working as engineers. These hands-on activities meet many of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience outcomes. Below are four activities along with their cost and activity time. Most of these samplers do not require you to return anything to council. Order form can be found here.
| Techbridge Sampler | Sampler Description | Fee per Girl | Activity Time | |||
| Snap Circuits (Power it Up) | Build a variety of electrical circuits using a Snap Circuits kit. Learn about the relationship between a resistor ans switch in a circuit, create series and parallel circuits and identify polar components | $2/girl | 90 min | |||
| Car to the Rescue (Engineers to the Rescue) | Design and construct a rubber band-powered car and test how far it can travel under its own power. | $2/girl | 130 min | |||
| Mini Playground (Thrill Builders) | Learn about and use simple machines to design and build playground equipment | $3/girl | 110 min | |||
| Toss the Ball (Thrill Builders) | Create a pivoting arm to build a miniature catapult that launches small balls. |
$2/girl |
110 min |
|||
| No Cookie Crumbles (Design Time) | Investigate how to properly package a cookie. Test your packaging for sturdiness and resistance to weight, movement and water. |
$5/girl |
110 min |
|||
| Wind-Powered Crank (Engineers to the Rescue) | Create a working wind-powered crank. The crank must lift twenty paper clips 50 cm off the ground using a blow dryer as its wind source. |
$3/girl |

Robotics TEams
Girl Scouts are learning valuable life skills as they discover how to build and program robots. Under the guidance of mentors, girls experiment with new techniques and learn from the outcomes. Girl Scouts who participate in robotics teams discover their ability to succeed with technology while developing strong teamwork skills. We have both FLL and FRC robotics teams.
